VIR’s Full Course is fast, flowing, and physically demanding, with major elevation shifts and technical corner sequences. The Climbing Esses are a rhythm-based section requiring high commitment and balance through left-right transitions. Turn 11 (Oak Tree) is one of the most iconic and important corners for exit speed onto the long back straight. South Bend (Turn 10) is a blind, high-speed left-hander that tests driver bravery. The Roller Coaster section plunges downhill with quick changes in camber and line, challenging drivers lap after lap. VIR rewards momentum driving and punishes mistakes with limited runoff in certain areas.
Nestled in Alton, Virginia, near the North Carolina border, Virginia International Raceway is one of North America's premier natural road courses. Originally opened in 1957 and revived in 2000, VIR blends old-school charm with modern racing standards. Its flexible layout allows for multiple series and simultaneous events, including IMSA, SRO America, MotoAmerica, and club racing. The facility also features the Barber Motorsports Museum-rivaling VIR Gallery and hosts performance schools and testing. With its combination of long straights, tight technical corners, and a scenic natural setting, VIR is beloved by drivers and fans alike. The track’s historic turns and signature sections like Oak Tree and the Climbing Esses make it a standout challenge in American motorsport.
