Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

Track Backstory

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, located just north of Braselton, Georgia, is one of North America's most iconic and challenging road courses. Originally opened in 1970, it has become a staple in American motorsports history, best known as the home of the Petit Le Mans. With a layout that follows the natural terrain, the 2.54-mile track offers sweeping elevation changes, high-speed corners, and a rhythm that rewards driver precision. Now owned by IMSA Holdings, the circuit continues to host world-class events across two and four wheels, and remains a favorite for both drivers and fans alike.

Technicals

The Driving Line

  • Track Length: 2.54 miles (4.088 km)
  • Number of Turns: 12
  • Elevation Change: Approximately 120 feet (36.5 meters)

Road Atlanta is fast, technical, and packed with elevation changes that demand sharp focus and smooth inputs. Here’s a breakdown of key sections and challenges:

  • Turn 1: A fast, uphill right-hander where staying tight to the curb is crucial to carrying momentum.
  • Esses (Turns 3–5): A flowing, high-speed section requiring finesse and balance—mistakes here can ruin your lap.
  • Turn 6–7 Complex: A slower, technical section leading onto the back straight. Good exit speed from Turn 7 is critical.
  • Turn 10A–10B Chicane: Heavy braking zone with elevation drop. Good passing opportunity but easy to overshoot.
  • Turn 12: A blind, downhill right-hander to the front straight—commitment and line discipline are essential to avoid the wall on exit.
